Singer, composer and producer Arooj Aftab has been nominated at the Grammy Awards for the second year in a row.
Last year, she made history by becoming the first Pakistani to recieve a Grammy award for her song ”Mohabbat”. She was nominated in two categories — the Best New Artist and the Best Global Music Performance — and she won the award in the latter category.
This year, Arooj has been nominated for her song ”Udhera Na”, featuring Indian actress Anoushka Shankar, for the second time in the category of Best Global Music Performance.
Born on March 11, 1985 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, she lives in Brooklyn, New York, the United States. She works in various musical styles and idioms, including jazz, minimalism, and neo-sufi.
Arooj has achieved many awards in music. She has recently received the Pride of Performance award presented by President Arif Alvi on the eve of the 75th Diamond Jubilee anniversary of Pakistan.
