First female police officer from Balochistan appointed to head a Punjab district

The Punjab government has posted SP Shazia Sarwar as District Police Officer (DPO) of Layyah.

She is the fifth policewoman to to serve as DPO in Punjab and the first female officer with Balochistan domicile.

Earlier, SP Shaista Rehman has served as DPO Bhakkar, SP Ammara Ather as DPO Bahawalnagar and Sargodha, SP Maria Mahmood as DPO Pakpattan and SP Nida Umar as DPO Layyah during the last four years.

Besides, Faisalabad City Police Officer (CPO) Omer Saeed Malik posted Farah Batool as Station House Officer (SHO), the first policewoman to serve at the position in the history of the district.

Women account for only 2.25 per cent of total police strength in Pakistan’s largest province as there are only 4,500 female officers out of about 200,000 personnel are serving in the Punjab police departments.
