After getting great response and appreciation at various film festivals held in France, Canada, Australia and India, the Pakistani film ‘Joyland’ is now set to be released on November 18 at cinema houses all over the country.
Written and directed by Saim Sadiq in his feature film directorial debut, “Joyland” is the first Pakistani film to be premiered at the the 75th annual Cannes Film Festival in France, where it won two prestigious awards, ‘Un Certain Jury Prize’ and ‘Queer Palm Award’ . It also won the ‘Best Film of the Subcontinent’ from Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
The film was invited at 2022 Toronto International Film Festival in ‘Special Presentations’ section and was screened in September this year. It also made it to ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ section of the 27th Busan International Film Festival and was screened on October 6, 2022. Recently, it was shown at the Dharamshala International Film Festival in India and was hugely acclaimed by critics and film lovers.
‘Joyland’ has been selected by the Pakistan’s Oscars Selection Committee as the country’s submission to the 95th Academy Awards for the ‘International Feature Film Award’ category.
