The eight-member review committee, formed by the Prime Minister, to look into complaints that the controversial but critically acclaimed Pakistani film ‘Joyland’ was ”against social and moral norms”, has cleared it after deleting some of its ”objectionable and immoral” scenes.
Written and directed by Saim Sadiq, ‘Joyland’ is Pakistan’s official entry for Oscars 2023 for the international feature film award.
The film has already won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize and the unofficial Queer Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year.
It was also screened at the international film festivals of Toronto, Busan and India and received huge praises everywhere.
Produced by Apoorva Charan, Sarmad Khoosat and Lauren Mann, ‘Joyland’ features Sarwat Gilani, Aleena Khan, Rasti Farooq, Sania Saeed, Salman Peerzada, Sohail Sameer and Ali Junejo.
The film is being released on Friday, November 18 at cinema houses across the country.
