Life expectancy slightly dropped to 65 years in Pakistan

The Pakistan Demographic Survey (PDS) – 2020 reveals that life expectancy — average number of years that a person is expected to live — has slightly dropped to 65 years from 65.4 two years ago.

The PDS was released on November 15 by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics after a gap of more than a decade. the last report was published in 2009, and looked at 2007 statistics.

Although the overall life expectancy has dropped, it rose among men from 64.3 to 64.5. FDor women, it fell from 66.5 to 65.5 but was still higher than for men.

The number of deaths of infants under the age of one per 1,000 live births, which was 75.2 per cent in 2007, was reduced to 56 per cent.

The PDS shows that the country’s population has reached from 207.6 million in 2017 to 220.42 million now, including 111.69 million men and 108.73 million women. Most people continue to live in rural areas (139.41 million) compared to urban areas (81 million).
