Nooh wins gold medal, first for Pakistan in Commonwealth Games

Nooh Dastgir Butt won gold medal in +109kg weightlifting competitions in the Commonwealth Games at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on August 3.

This is the first gold medal by a Pakistani athelete in the ongoing event and the second in the country’s CWG weightlifting history.

Shujauddin Malik was the first weightlifter who claimed gold in the 2006 Commonwealth Games at Melbourne in the 85kg.

Nooh lifted a 173kg in snatch, which is also the Commonwealth record. He topped the snatch session.

He extended an even better performance in the clean and jerk session and his record lift of 232kg earned him the gold with a record total of 405kg.
