Sajal Aly widely praised for impressive appearance at Toronto film festival

Pakistan’s popular television and film star Sajal Aly has recently posted a heartfelt note on Instagram in response to the immense appreciation and love she got from her fans and celebrities for her impressive appearance on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) a few days ago.

She attended the premiere of her cross-cultural British rom-com ”What’s Love Got To Do With It”. The film’s screenplay has been written by Jemima Goldsmith, ex-wife of Pakistan’s former prime minister and cricket legend Imran Khan. She is also a co-producer of the movie.

Directed by Shekhar Kapoor, the film stars Emma Thompson, Lily James, Shazad Latif, Shabana Azmi, Aslam Chaudhry and Taj Atwal along with Sajal Aly.

The movie, which revolves around the ups and downs of an arranged marriage,  was appreciated by film critics and participants at the TIFF.

Its premiere was also attended by Jemima with her sons — Sulaiman Khan and Qasim Khan — and the team of the movie, except the lead actor Shazad Latif who could not attend it.

Sajal wrote on her post: ”My debut outing at TIFF was an absolute dream and fills my heart with immense gratitude”.

She thanked the writer and co-producer of the movie and said: ”This would not have been possible without Khanjemima. I am beyond overwhelmed by the love, appreciation. And above all, I am extremely humbled to have had an opportunity to represent Pakistan on the world stage”.

Jemima commented, ”You Star” on the post by the 28-year-old actress.

Various celebs from Pakistan congratulated Sajal Aly on her achievement. They include Mahira Khan, Shehzad Roy, Yumna Zaidi, Sanam Saeed, Maya Ali, Sonya Hussain, Anoushey Ashraf and also Sajal’s actress sister Saboor Aly.

The film has been scheduled to be released in UK on January 27, 2023.
